SPECIALISED  EXPERIENCE: Planning/Construction/Testing/Commissioning/Operation/
Maintenance of all types of large Power Stations, Transmission Lines, Electric Power Supply Distribution Systems in top supervisory level.

BRIEF IMPORTANT MILESTONES IN THE COMPANIES WORKED:

Crompton Engineering Co. Ltd: Trained in design / erection of EHT Substations, Transmission Lines, Railway Electrification, Arial Ropeways. Spent time on construction sites at India Cements Factory, Sankaridurg; Seshasayee Paper & Boards Factory, Erode; Shimoga - Sharavati 220 kv Transmission Line; BRECO Ropeways, Dhanbad; 25 KV AC Railway Overhead Electrification Project (Madras – Tambaram – Villipuram 135 KM) Madras. Single handedly involved in bidding and successful landing of the prestigious Defence Avadi Military Tank Factory Project Electrification Tender (the largest project at that time in 1963) for the Company.

M.W.K. International Ltd.,Seattle USA: Construction / Testing-Commissioning / Operation of large Thermal Power Stations and Gas turbines. Starting out initially as Electrical Superintendent and finally ending up as General Superintendent Construction. I learned the basic planning and layout of construction sites, location of various sites for stores, open storage areas, Construction offices for project control and sub-contractors, laying out of roads in project sites suitable for movements of heavy-lift cranes and trailers to suit all weather conditions, methods of erection of every type of equipment including Turbo-Generating Sets and Boilers. It was found that I had a natural flair for rigging heavy equipment, instrumentation, piping / tankage, welding procedures control, testing, commissioning, project management and labour unions problems handling. Being an all-rounder in construction was highly appreciated in the American Company and I was elevated to rank of General Superintendent directly under the Project Manager with other American trade Superintendents reporting to me.

Tata Consulting Engineers: By virtue of my experience in thermal power stations, I was posted at the Tata Trombay Thermal Power Station, Trombay, Bombay. During my entire tenure of service in this Company. I was in charge of a separate department handling electrical and mechanical work pertaining to modifications, modernization, upgradation, emergency breakdowns, rehabilitation and overhauling work not in scope of normal maintenance for all types of equipment. Given below are a few important landmarks:

I was associated with the rehabilitation and overhauling of generators and electrical equipment in unit 1 (62.5 MW), unit 3 (62.5 MW), and Unit 4 (150 MW). I was in charge of gas pipeline installation (including metering station) from Burma Shell refinery to unit 4 (150 MW) boiler so that the tilting gas burners could be utilized. I believe this was the first case in India where gas from a refinery was used directly in a conventional thermal station boiler.

I was in charge of reconstruction / re-commissioning in record time of all coal yard equipment which were damaged in a large fire – this included crushers, transfer houses, wagon tipplers, conveyors, magnetic separators, electrical switchgear and all electrical and mechanical equipment.

I was in charge of construction the LSHS fuel handling and burning system. I believe that this was the first instance of utilizing LSHS (last stage output in a petroleum oil refinery) as fuel in any power station in India.

I was in charge of installation of several EOT cranes and electrical / mechanical Maintenance facilities in the large Workshop and Service building at Trombay Thermal Power Station.

I was in charge of erection of new large fuel storage tanks in the tank farm area, several large chemical storage tanks for a chemical terminal with the associated pumping stations and piping from the ship-berth at Pir Pau.

I have carried out overhauling / repairs to large coal mills, ID / FD / GR fans and Boiler-feed pumps when special problems arose beyond the scope of normal maintenance.

I was in charge of installation of the new Load Dispatch Centre at Trombay complete with control panels, cabling and the Westinghouse Prodac 50 computer system which automatically controls the governors of all turbo generators in the Tata Electric system for obtaining different outputs as required by system demand.

I was in charge of modification to the 110 Kv switchyard involving replacements of ASEA air-blast circuit breakers by bulk oil IGE circuit breakers controlling output of each of the four generators at Trombay.

During planned major overhauling outages, as well as during emergency shut downs, I was assigned major roles in the mechanical as well as electrical work normally considered as critical.

I was considered as an all rounder who could carry out any work assigned with incredible speed and was highly appreciated for my trouble shooting abilities in the electrical and mechanical fields. I was always consulted in cases of emergencies involving tripping of units caused by electrical and mechanical causes.

I constructed a sophisticated Mini Auditorium with latest audio-visual equipment (available at that time) which was highly appreciated and is still used at Trombay Power Station for training of staff and giving presentations to visiting Dignitaries. I was given an assignment for producing a documentary film titled “Trombay Today” which gave a special publicity angle to the functioning of the Power Station and the overhauling methods used.

Surindra Engineering Company Pvt. Ltd. :  I worked as the General Manager of this Company which specialized in construction of site fabricated large steel storage tanks (both fixed roof and floating roof) in various refineries, power stations and chemical plants. This Company also had a factory in Bombay where they manufacture pre-fabricated high pressure steam piping and pipe fittings approved by the Boiler Inspectorate for supply to various customers like refineries, power stations of Electricity Boards and Boiler manufacturers. They also manufactured high pressure vessels and heat exchangers. This Company took contracts in carrying out steam piping at projects sites which included high pressure welding and stress relieving as approved by the Boiler Inspectorates. I picked up vast knowledge in this specialized field of steam piping and large storage tanks constructions.

BSES Limited (Mumbai):  I have completed 25 years of service in BSES. I was responsible for bringing up the Contracts Division of the Company in the field of erection, testing, commissioning, operation and overhauling of all types of Power Stations (Thermal, Gas Turbines, Giant Diesel, Nuclear & Hydro electric), large HT switchyards and Construction of Transmission lines. Being proficient in the field of Computers, I installed the entire computer system of BSES used for billing for Electricity consumed by consumers. I have landed and executed many Jobs in fields of large Substations, Switchyards and Distribution Systems – I was responsible for the First large export project in Wadi Jizan in Saudi Arabia involving design and installation of electricity distribution systems.  My main specialty was always in the field of power stations.

I give below a List of power Stations and Transmission Lines which were handled by me at the top level:
